PREFERENCE DATE SYSTEM

NO HORSE WILL RECEIVE A DATE WITHOUT A CURRENT NEGATIVE COGGINS TEST ATTACHED TO THE FOAL PAPERS. FOAL PAPERS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED WITHOUT A NEGATIVE COGGINS TEST ATTACHED. FOAL PAPERS ON UNNAMED HORSES OR YEARLINGS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

  1. Under the Preference Date System, a horse will receive either an Entry Date (Example 1), a Running Date (Example R1) or a Scratch Date (Example S1). Preference will be given to the horses with the earliest dates. When a horse with an Entry Date has the same date as a horse with a Running Date, the horse with the Entry Date has preference. When a horse with a Running Date has the same date as a horse with a Scratch Date, the horse with the Running Date has Preference.

  2. Horsemen can establish an Entry Date for their horses by registering their foal papers, along with a valid negative Coggins test attached, with The Racing Office in which case the horse will receive an E-Date corresponding to the date they are turned in. The earliest date being October 29 (0). If foal papers are received no later than 12:00 p.m. (Noon) on Tuesday, October 29, the horse will receive a (0) date. Foal papers received on October 30, 31 or November 1 will receive a (1) date. Foal papers received after that time will receive a date corresponding to the date of racing. If foal papers are registered on a non-racing day, the next racing date will be given.

  3. A Running Date is established when a horse draws into a race, in which case the horse will receive a date corresponding to the day the race is scheduled to run.

  4. Horses that are scratched out of the body of a race will receive a Scratch Date for the day they were scheduled to run.

  5. In Turf races (With Also-Eligibles) a horse on the also-Eligible list will have preference to scratch (without penalty) if said horse is scratched before 8:00 A.M. the day of the race. After that time said horse will receive a Scratch Date corresponding to the day of the race if said horse has an opportunity to draw into the body of the race (If there is a scratch within the body of the race and any also-eligible(s) could have drawn into the body of the race by date preference.), or the race is taken off the Turf, in which case 12 horses will be allowed to run. In case of a scratch the horse will receive a Scratch Date corresponding to the day of the race.

  6. In scheduled turf races that are taken off the turf, any horse that races will revert to its previous date, (either Entry, Running or Scratch). Any horse that scratches will receive a Scratch Date with the exception of Rule #5.

  7. Horses that have established a date at the current meeting will lose their date should their foal papers be withdrawn to race elsewhere.

  8. In no way does a claim, transfer of owner or trainer affect the preference date of a horse.

  9. Preference must be claimed at time of entry.

  10. In all winners races winners are preferred.

  11. No horse will receive a date without a current negative Coggins test attached to the foal papers. Foal papers will not be accepted without a Coggins test attached.

  12. Preference Dates do not supersede the conditions of a race.
